CHANGINGS

Even in Papua (Irian Jaya) there are changings.

Sweet potatos are the basical food
for the highland Papuas.

It was so till today.......

Also in the Korowai-area are many changings. The time don´t stand still there -
The missions move on and change the culture
of the indigenous peoples.

One of the changing here:
The treehouses of the Korowai will dissapear, because there are more less fightings and wars.

The following pictures just show you how it is now.

	YAFUFLA (Missionaries station near the Korowai Batu-area) The Korowai are living now between two cultures. Still they carry bow and arrow with them all the time. Necklaces and net are mainly used. New are the small machines who bring them musik, we call it radio. But they need batteries. And from where does the Korowai get the money to buy them?
WAMENA The Dani found a new way to earn money. They make - with inspiration from the Asmat - carvings. They use motives from their own culture. The carvings are now really good. But they use nails and glue to enhance the utensiles.
	WAMENA The street to the new Wamena market will be build. It was in 1998 Now the street is finished, the market is now 3 km outside of the town. The income of the Papuas will get lower, because they have to hire a taxi to come out to the market. At the old marketplace they will build a big shoppingcenter with more than two floors.
WAMENA There was the old pigmarket from the Dani!
